Feedback

Goodness me ! What a journey it has been ! ! At times incredibly frustrating and at others rewarding and no I don't just mean the incentive of the player coming my way. There have been moments of complete ludditeness, but more of the "Oh I can do that ! variety.

The RSS's (shades of the terrors of the Princess Bride were close to my mind during this exercise) were not my favourite, but then I really got to grips with You Tube and then adding my clip to my blog.

My favourites though had to be Bloglines and Image Generator. Will these be useful in my work, who knows, probably not, but I got huge feeling of accomplishment in finding out that I was capable of getting on a computer and setting up my own Blog, which I will continue to use.

As a confidence and knowledge boosting programme I have definitely benefited in my own way.

Thanks for the opportunity.

Podcast part Two

Have finally managed to track one down. Went thru podast in Bloglines, but got lost. Sigh.
Went back to Pod alley and found my Podcast. I am now a subscribing member of 'All about Heroes' in my Bloglines account. Whew ! ! !

Now off to the Feedback segment.

Hooray ! !

Net Library

Ooh this was fun, and yes I did set up an account. I tried searching for a number of my favourite authors, but to no avail. So then I looked up on what we had in our elibrary and searched from there.
As a friend of mine is working on an audition for Twelfth Night I was able to look that up and see two Cliff Notes texts as well as the full text by Shakespeare. 'Tis a shame that the printing is soo small, as for me it was hard to read, and then it took a while to click that you didn't move the pages using the arrows, but by using the Next button.
Still it was amzing to see the array of books that we have in that system. Tried to read a Berenstein Bears Picture book, but it wasn't the same as having the large pictures in front of you.
It does mean howver that those confined to their home who are au fait with e-books have a large selection of books to choose from.

Podcasts et al.

An apology and probable sense of impending doom is coming the way of the poor Web 2.0 person who has to suffer through my musings of this particular task.

I-tunes I love and always will, but Podcasts are just not my bag, having said that the Yahoo version did have some good music casts.
Podcast.net was the easiest for me to navigate, although when I tried to listen to a couple my poor computer told me I didn't have the necessary equipment. Yahoo's version was not at all helpful unless you had a particular podcast in mind.

This might be cheating, but I was looking at Annie's cos' we like to do that bonding thing, and saw her comment on the BBC pods, so had a go at that, and joy ! ! Things I really wanted to listen to...if my machine would let me. Maybe my flatmate will let me borrow his computer at home.. hmmmm.

You Tube

I first saw You Tube when a friend sent me the video for Here we go again by OkGo , at least I think that was the bands name. They got so many hits that the video was then put on Juice TV etc.

I agree that the Library Dominos showed a distinct lack of imagination. What about going downstairs... plus a variety of sizes and colours would have increased the interest factor. I'm still searching for a video I saw where a library patron got crushed in the stacks by the "evil" librarian. Was very funny and most cathartic...

Generally I found the site easy to use although copying and pasting was a tad confusing until I realised the code would bring the video up on the blog, not my post. Still got that sorted.

My video is a favourite from my childhood. Love it !! ! Ahh memories....

2.0 Web awards

I could have picked Facebook, cos' I've been playing on this for quite a while, but decided to try something new instead. If you lived in USA 'Yelp.com' would have been extremely useful as it gave bars and restaurant details of each city alphabetically and then by state.
Clipmarks was interesting as you could 'clip' only the bits you were interested in. Fancy ! ! !

Online applications

Well, I made my little wiki inside Zoho writer and I had a look around, but got majorly confused as I really don't use word processing or spreadsheets ( which I hate having to do ! ! ! ). HOwever i did make my page pretty and changed the colours etc. This appears to be my forte... It' s nice to have one at last ! ! !
Now off to do the Web 2.0 awards list ......

PB Wiki

I think it worked. I added to favourite books and TV programmes, but it kept saying you must update your file, but there was no update button ! ! When I added to the book it asked for my name etc, but not when I added to the Fav TV one. So I went back and edited it with my name. Still it was a good exercise to have a look around.

Wikis

I like that anyone can have a bash at adding items to a Wiki entry. I guess it could be annoying if someone changed what you wrote, or corrected it, but that, I suppose, is the joy of Wiki-ing. As a person with limite skills a Wiki gives someone like me a great opportunity to take part in developing a website without feeling like I always need to ask someone for help.

I really liked the Princeton BookLovers wiki, this would be a great addtion to our Read and Relax section of our website, as it feels like a mission to add your own review of a book.

Future of libraries

Ohh ! ! !, the term "Brave New World" comes to mind for this poor luddite of a librarian who loves the feel, smell ( the nice clean one, not the ' cat pee' one) and touch of holding an actual book.

I think I understood most of the words in "Into a new world of librarianship", but at this early stage I'm not sure I'm ready ! !
I can see the need for new technology being added into the library system as a whole and it's great to know that more people will have access in the future to information from their home or whatever space they hapen to be in.

"To a temporary place in time" this article kind of freaked me out a bit. The only avatars I've ever heard of were probably in Star Trek Deep Space Nine, and while the idea of a Country House Library is lovely, it did seem to have a whiff of the "them v/s us" about it.

Technorati

Well, by putting Learning 2.0 into Technorati and looking at Posts only, there were 8,901 results, but of course many of these did not relate to our Learning 2.0 program, but picked up anything with these words and numbers in it. There were a large number of vodeos also related to this topic.

When I clicked onto Blogs relating to this there were only 520 a significant decrease compared to the numbers above. A number of these were not in English there was one that was in Spanish.

Boing Boing, which I have looked at a number of times over the course of this learning interwebby stuff ( how technical) is one of the most popular blogs used at any time.

Tagging - Halfway there.

Had a good look round del.icio.us . Blogged onto Librarian Chick, which has had over 6000 viewers, it seemed to cater for school library types more than the public library. Then, quite by chance found stumbleupon.com. This had some really cool categories and by going into these you could then network woth many like-minded peopl depending on the category you clicked onto.

Although there was nothing there for me in terms of theatre my main passion, I did briefly look at some of the humour sites and there were a number of videos that I had seen on You-Tube which were really funny.

RollYo

This took ages to get on kept crapping out on me. I didn't find this useful it all. Unless you have a good idea of the types of search engine you want, they were difficult to locate and use. This is not something I will use in the future. I did register for the experience of doing so, but won't be going back.

LibraryThing

On a roll today. I'm not sure that this is something I would use a great deal on a daily basis. I might use it to get ideas of what to read next, but I prefer a more serendipitous way of finding books by just "giving them a go", case in point - "I love you Beth Cooper" now a true favourite.

Added five of my favourites including the book above. Here is my link:

www.librarything.com/profile/minime.

IMage Generator

Had a bit of trouble with posting the Image ones. I tried the M&M one and the Doll Image generator with no success, so tried a myriad of others and found this text based one on my fairy name. There's also one to get your Leprachaun name, but as that was my nickname at school it would cause too much trauma. Not once have I ever been likened to a fairy, can't think why! !

Your fairy is called Bramble Icespider. She is a bone chilling bringer of justice for the vulnerable. She lives in leafy dells and bluebell glades. She is only seen when the dry seed cases pop. She wears bluebell-blue dresses. She has icy blue butterfly wings. Get'>http://www.emmadavies.net/fairy/default.aspx">Get your own fairy name here!!

This was really a fun exercise.

News bloglines

Had a good look today as on going from Friday's task. While I quite like Bloglines because it gives you newsfeeds on items you've already chosen, I felt you had to have a good idea for what topic or news that you were interested in.

However topix.net was great ! I could look at the NZ Herals or if you clicked on "Most popular" the wonderful world of US trash was there at your fingertips, along with comments from people who seemed to have very firm if not bizarre opinions. See the article on 'Dog' the bounty Hunter, not for the story, but for the comments attached. Good Lord !!

Blog Posting

Told you I'd persevere. Went on to Bloglines and found some amazing theatre news feeds, so have saved those on to my account. They are all about the West End. Am going to see if there are any NZ ones out there. Fab ! ! ! !

RSS

I'm not sure that this is something I'd use very often. To be honest I found it all a bit tiresome not my thing at all really. However I created an account on Bloglines.com, adding to my suscribe feeds was really difficult !! Kept having to go between screens and then getting it all wrong drama and frustration in a very short space of time. Will keep on persevering tho'.
